As a member of a small team, whatever it takes to get the job done: project management, team building, operations, financial, client conversations, etc.

What was your dream job as a child?

Ha, I honestly don’t remember, but probably to help others, just like my dad. He was an elementary school teacher at the time.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Spare time? Ha, that’s a good one! When I do manage to carve out some time for myself, I prefer the outdoors: rock climbing, walking, running, biking, hiking, & sailing.

We’ve been so very lucky to have such wonderful interns work with us. The most touching moment for me was when one particular intern chose to stay to work with us for 2 extra months because of the experience, skills she was exposed to, and work culture. We truly are a second family.

Where are you from?

Born in the Philippines, lived there for 30 years, and moved to Winnipeg in September 2012.

What is your background/ area of expertise?

I lead web and internet marketing projects of varying sizes and degrees of complexity. I recently finished the Project Management Diploma program at the University of Winnipeg, Professional Applied and Continuing Education, where I spent a considerable amount of time improving my knowledge and skills.

I have been working with diverse teams for 7 years. I have Situational Leadership and Six Sigma training and certification. These, along with my passion for continuous learning, technology, web, and social media, have helped me to become the project manager that I am today.

What is your job here?

As a Project Manager, my job is to help manage marketing projects, audit current processes, and improve them based on proven best practices. It allows me to develop the most efficient methods of managing all Green Leaf marketing projects.

What was your dream job as a child?

I wanted to be a teacher. When I was a little girl, I remember I would pretend to be a teacher to my sister and cousins. We enjoyed afternoons with a blackboard, colored chalks, books, pencils and crayons. I am not letting go of that dream completely; I use every opportunity I can to provide value to people by sharing my knowledge and skills with them.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Spending time playing or having conversations with my daughter. For “me time”, I love reading, browsing through my social media accounts, and learning new skills.

What are your short term goals?

Take and pass the PMP certification exam.

What are your long term goals?

To be a successful working mother, and to live a happy, healthy and prosperous life. As a Project Manager and hands-on mom, I want to show my daughter that women can work to have a name of her own while taking care of their family. There needs to be a day when women around the world can have an equal opportunity to be educated, accepted, and celebrated for the noble work they do for their families and communities. I want to help make this world a better place.

What inspires/motivates you?

My inspiration is my family. I am motivated everyday by my religious faith to use my time and talent in dignified work, to provide for my family and give them the absolute best that life has to offer. This quote also hits home:

“Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.”
— The Dalai Lama

Why do you like working here?

I am a working mom, so the flexible schedule is definitely a winner. This is exactly what I want to do – project management, web, and social media. I also get to work with an awesome team, filled with enormous talent, potential, and huge hearts.

How did you wind up working here?

Joseph told me that they had me on their radar for a while. Colleen Little, the Program Manager at PACE, told me after the Cultural Night in January that he is interested in hiring me as an intern. I applied for the internship and got this amazing opportunity.

“Be undeniably good, you no longer have to introduce yourself”.
I’m a shy person. I’m not good at talking about myself. I want to become the best, so that someday people will just know who I am, and I won’t need to introduce myself.

Where are you from?

I’m originally from the Philippines, and came to Winnipeg, Manitoba in October of 2012.

What is your background/ area of expertise?

I fell in love with website design when ‘HTML’ was first introduced to me at school in 2001. I learned how to use Photoshop in 2003, and ever since then I have refused to use a computer without Photoshop installed on it.

What is your job here?

On my first day at work, my boss wrote a blog post for the company website to welcome me as the newest team member. He had a hard time thinking what my title should be; he didn’t want it to be an ordinary title– he wanted it to sound cool. After some time, he finally decided on “Web Samurai”. As a “Web Samurai” I do website design for the company.

My family and friends know that I’m a huge anime fan so their first reaction was, “Seriously, is it your idea?” and I’m proud to answer, “No, it’s not my idea.” (with a huge smile on my face).

What was your dream job as a child?

I wanted to be a doctor. Where I grew up, when you asked a child what he/she wanted to be when they grow up, they would say “I want to become a doctor.” I don’t know why, but as for me, I probably said that because there was no computer in our house at the time.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I sleep a lot, but if I have spare time, I love watching Japanese animation, Korean Drama and Hollywood movies.

What are your short term goals?

Right now, I’m taking a Software Development program at Red River College. I am aiming to finish it next year (2016).

What are your long term goals?

I want to create a free mobile app! I don’t know what that is yet, but I’ll figure it out after I finish my course. I will earn a passive income from it with the help of advertisers, then I will travel the world.

What inspires/motivates you?

“Be undeniably good, you no longer have to introduce yourself”.
I’m a shy person. I’m not good at talking to people and I’m not even comfortable answering the “what is your area of expertise” question above. I want to become the best, so that someday people will just know who I am, and I won’t need to introduce myself.

Favourite memory on the job so far?

I was able to attend TEDxWinnipeg and for me, it’s a once in a lifetime chance! I remember I always enjoyed watching TEDx clips on youtube when I was in the Philippines. It never crossed my mind that I would actually be in the TEDxWinnipeg theatre! It was a dream I never thought would come true, but it did. Thanks Vine Multimedia. 🙂
